The Long Night
Hybrids Have Two Supernatural Lineages
Hybrids are characters who inherit traits from two different Nightworld species.
They are not automatically stronger than single-species characters.
Not Every Combination Is Possible Some species pairings may be forbidden,
extremely rare, or require staff approval. Players should check the approved
hybrid combinations before creating a character.
They May Be Born or Created
A hybrid may be born to parents of different species or created through unusual magic, transformation, experimentation, resurrection, or supernatural interference.
Their Traits Should Blend Naturally
A hybrid’s appearance, instincts, abilities, and weaknesses should feel like a believable mixture of both lineages rather than two complete species placed into one character.
They Receive Limited Abilities
Hybrids should choose a smaller selection of abilities from each parent species. They do not receive every natural ability or advantage belonging to both sides.
They Inherit Weaknesses Too
A hybrid must have meaningful weaknesses connected to both lineages. Combining species does not erase feeding needs, magical limitations, transformation problems, or physical vulnerabilities.
Conflicting Instincts Can Cause Problems
Different supernatural natures may pull the character in opposing directions. A Shifter-Undead hybrid, for example, may struggle between living animal instincts and the hunger or stillness of undeath.
Their Lifespan Depends on Their Lineage
A hybrid’s aging, healing, and lifespan should fall somewhere between their two species unless their particular origin provides another explanation.
They May Not Fully Belong Anywhere
Hybrids can face suspicion from both sides of their family. Some communities may treat them as dangerous, unnatural, politically useful, or proof that old species divisions are changing.
Their Application Needs Extra Detail
Players should explain the hybrid’s parentage or creation, which traits came from each lineage, what abilities they possess, what weaknesses they inherited, and how society reacts to them. Unusual combinations require staff approval.
